The Purchase of Shiphrah Birthing Home
Seventeen years ago Shiphrah Birthing Home moved from the Gunderson home to a rented location in a nearby subdivision. Recently, the property owner strongly indicated he was serious about selling. We had a decision to make. Either buy the property or try to relocate. Those walls have heard the first cry of nearly 9,000 newborn babies over the years. Moving was not a real option. Throughout the past seventeen years we've become a part of the many impoverished communities that dot the hills and valleys of the area. We decided to move forward and enter into a Conditional Contract to purchase the 1,008 square meters of land that includes the Birthing Home itself. Owning the property will allow us to stabilize and develop the ministry beyond what it is today in terms of families served through this vital ministry.
The price per Sq. meter is P3, 000/$69USD, making the total purchase price P3,024,000/$69,600USD. That does not include transfer costs.
We need your help to make the purchase a reality. We have already paid $12,000.
Our payment schedule is:
Dec. 1, 2011: $7,000USD /$7193CAN / PHP 300, 000
April 1, 2012: $35,076.44USD /$36,047CAN / PHP 3,024,000
Oct. 1, 2012: $11,508USD / $11,827CAN /PHP 500,000
April 1, 2013: $11,508USD / $11,827CAN / PHP 500, 000
A Way To Look At It:
$12,000 funds a birthing room where 200 babies are born each year.
110 women and their families gather in the teaching area every week to attend the Prepared Natural Childbirth and Motherhood Course. We can fund that for $3,900 per semester day (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday).
600 women graduate every year with a certificate in Prepared and Natural Childbirth and Motherhood each year. That's $20 for the facility per certificate.
$100 funds the Reproductive Health Care facility for the ongoing care of one of our (currently) 118 families.
We provide between 7,000 and 8,000 prenatals each year. That's $1.50 for their child to play on the only playground in our neighborhood while their mom is learning and preparing for birth. $11,500 will fund the one playground available to many poor communities.
Honestly, that's good math.
