We have passed the one year mark since Dennis’ death. Remembering, our son Joel wrote “Benediction”. We remember a field at the foot of Montana’s Sweetgrass Hills and we celebrate the life lived, the faith followed, the call honored. “When you see the hills, you’ll know you’re home.” The Sweetgrass Hills, Liberty County, Montana Our eyes scan the northern horizon. There they are! The first glimpse! Dorothy said it in Wizard of Oz. “Oh, Auntie Em….there’s no place like home!” Sacred to the Blackfeet Indians, always beautiful, the Hi lls are home for us. This year they were exceptional. The spring rains had been more than generous and the Hills were lushly green like they hadn’t been for years. Our family farm was just to the east of them, some of the land touching the foothills. “We lift our eyes up to the hills. From whence does our help come? Our help comes from the Lord who made heaven and earth.”Ps. 121 “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Clause….” We walked into the grocery store the first Tuesday in September, and, loud and clear, wafting throughout the store???? Sure enough! Our first Christmas song of the season! Christmas comes early to the Philippines. It begins with the “ber” months. SeptemBER, OctoBER, etc. The BRRRR months, I guess. The lengthiest Christmas season in the world; it runs from Sept. 1 through Epiphany or Kings on Jan. 6. |
